Cosy British Inns

Match made in heaven! The Vine Inn, Nantwich, Cheshire with cask ales washed down with a delicious Pieminster pie!
The Strugglers Lincoln City

So called after people about to be hung struggling on the way to the gallows. Dates to 1841. Understood to be haunted by the dog of a man hung for murdering a game keeper. In recent times, has rightly won a Camra award, so Poshmum chose well sauntering into there on a breezy spring day!

This is Harrogate’s oldest bar. Come here on Sundays from 4pm. Amateur singers entertain. Fabulous way of passing the time. Lovely staff and one of the cosiest bars Poshmum has ever frequented!

This splendid building is called the Peacock and named after a now demolished bar on the same site. Since the current building’s inception in 1901 and even before that when the Peacock was renamed, the bar is known to all but newcomers as The Londonderry. The Londonderry was originally named after the Marquess of Londonderry, a 19th century coal owner who dominated much of the coal trade in Sunderland and the surrounding area. The current building, as well as having a historic ground floor bar, also hosts in the upper floors performance spaces.

This is the somewhat splendid Dun Cow pub in Sunderland. Its architecture was built to replicate the beautiful Sunderland Empire theatre adjacent complete with matching green dome. Both were built in 1901 and indeed the pub was known to be frequented by theatre stars. The intricate Victorian carved bar area is original and rare. Good real ales and a friendly team.

And we’re off. Girls day out in Newcastle Upon Tyne. This is The Bridge Hotel located on the high level bridge road. https://sjf.co.uk/our-pubs/bridge-hotel/. Can recommend the Ruby Revolution ale. Deliciously Smooth. By @threebrothersbrewing.co.uk

And on we go. The Crown Pasada towards the quayside. Very nice pint of Scottish Heavy Ale https://bigrockbeer.com/beer/scottish-heavy-ale/ and an old Rainbow album which I still have in my vinyl collection.

And now to the Brewdog bar on Dean Street actually on a course to learn about beer haha 😄

Red boots ready for the beer day of the year!

Pillars Bar on Crichton Street, Dundee – can recommend the jukebox! Dates to 1864 so they must be doing something right!
This is Hales Bar Harrogate, the town’s oldest bar, dates to 1827 but there’s been a coaching inn here since 1700s. Some decent local Haleside Brewery tap ales and many others, open mic every Sunday and some interesting quirks. Not a bad sojourn for Poshmum……..now about next Sunday!
Roasting by the open fire

Cosy British inns don’t get much better than the Rose and Crown at Romaldkirk https://www.rose-and-crown.co.uk/ we have enjoyed coming here for over 20 years. Great food and a hearty welcome. Dog friendly and lots of amazing walks nearby. Comfortable rooms. Above all though never tire of the roaring open fire.

Bamburgh beautiful all year but certain poignancy in the winter.
