For Poshmum, the key delights that leap out for me about Yorkshire is that there are is such a rich concentration…think stunning historical sights, hiking and more gentle rambles in nature rich scenery, a vast variety of food offerings, and did I mention the beer?
Accommodation to suit your budget or needs. Most recently, we stayed at the Thorpe Park Hotel Leeds, a thoroughly decent hotel located a short drive or bus journey from Leeds centre. Welcoming team, comfortable rooms, spa, and restaurant. For other suggestions see my cosy British Inns page for insights into Harrogate.

Beer a good selection of locally brewed craft beers is available at many hostelries. How about Saltaire?
The Saltaire Tap room hosts tours mainly at weekends. Good range of craft ales and it’s own woodfire pizza counter makes for a very pleasant resting place. Nothing quite like an ice cold beer in a heatwave!

Saltaire and the Saltaire world Heritage site is an absolute must-see in this area. Titus Salt built the Mill and surrounding infrastructure in the late 19th century to ensure the mill workers were able to live and work in good conditions rather than the low quality slim housing more typically available to the working class living in the area at the time. Salts Mill finally ceased operations in 1986. The building is now repurposed and hosts quirky shops and galleries exhibiting a range of exciting artwork, including that of the renowned David Hockney, who was born in Bradford, close to Saltaire.

History
Visit a rich variety of castles, monasteries, palaces. Try the magnificent Fountains Abbey for historic interests and scenic walks. Our son spotted what he insists was a red robed ghost here, high up amongst the Abbey ruins many years ago…..the Abbey and surrounds certainly tell us a few tales.
